The Khedive Heritage Recreation Hall in Khedive, Saskatchewan is in need of a number of renovations, and there is a art class taking place this weekend that is raising funds to help offset some of those costs.

"The Khedive Heritage Committee invited me to hold a class in the Khedive Heritage Recreation Hall on Sunday, September 22nd at 1:30 PM," explained local artist & teacher Diana Hume. "It's a fundraiser for the hall and hopefully it raises awareness for the heritage site in Khedive. And Khedive is about 30 minutes west of Weyburn on Highway 13."

This art class runs for 3 hours and by the end of the class you will have a 6 inch seated or reclining figure. They are made with a fabric hardener called paverpol, which is an environmentally friendly liquid that, when dry, makes fabric rock-hard & all-weather resistant. All of the supplies for this class will be provided. All you need to bring is your imagination and $55 that will help out the Heritage Hall. No experience needed.

"When this fabric hardener hardens it's very metallic looking," added Hume. "People often ask me if they're made out of bronze or some other kind of metal. This paverpol fabric hardener is made in Holland, but it is slowly making it's way to Canada. Some people are worried and say that they can't even draw a stick man. No matter what your skill level is, you can definitely do this. I'll take you through it step-by-step. By the end of the class you will have fully made figure that you can leave outside in the freezing, and rain, and snow. They are completely weather proof and they can handle it all."

The Rock Sitter Class will be this Sunday from 1:30 PM till 5:00 PM at the Khedive Heritage Recreation Hall. To sign up, contact Gail, the coordinator at (306) 442-4213.
