With the annual Terry Fox Run coming up this week across Canada, the city of Weyburn hoisted a flag above City Hall on Monday afternoon to commemorate Fox's incredible journey.

Tomorrow, Fred Fox, Terry's brother, will be in town to speak with students in Weyburn at St. Michael School and Queen Elizabeth school, before heading out to Milestone School in the afternoon.

The Terry Fox Run is a fundraiser held every year across the country and world for that matter, all in the name of cancer research. Mayor Marcel Roy says the City is proud to show their support to such an important figure in Canadian history.

"It shows our support for all cancer research. Cancer is always a plague within our society and we're participating to say that 'we want to try and eradicate it from our society.' By raising this flag we're showing our support," the Mayor said.

Sunday will be the day of the run this year and the organizers are hoping for a big turnout. T-shirts are available to be bought and pledge sheets are also available for those who wish to help raise some funds. All proceeds go toward the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer treatments.

Mayor Roy said he wants Fred Fox to feel welcome in our great city.

"I hope he is going to be impressed that we as a city are in support of his brother's cause. His memory hasn't been lost and that we'll continue to strive forward to try to eradicate cancer," Roy said.

It isn't too late to sign up for the Terry Fox Run. Registration can be found here.
