The Weyburn Volleyball Club's 15 and under (15U) Rush are the top seeded team heading into provincials this weekend.

After entering the SaskCup #3 as second seed, the Rush battled to secure the gold medal, ranking them first in the province heading into playdowns.

"At the start of the season I knew that this group of girls was going to be talented enough to compete for a gold medal at provincials," said head coach Luke Guest.

"It was just a matter of preparing them, and putting all the pieces in the right places."
 
The Rush squad has a 44-9 record this season. In his 10 years as head coach, it was Guest's first SaskCup gold medal.
 
"That goes to show the amount of talent on this team. This team can be proud of their hard work and commitment, working on their own, wanting to practice more, and being very committed teammates.
 
"In my opinion, this weekend won't be easy, any of the top five teams can win; it's a matter of who comes to play." 

Provincial pool play begins Saturday at Saskatoon's Kinsmen / Hank Ruys Soccer Centre. Below is the schedule for the Rush leading up to the quarter finals:

  • Saturday, 9 a.m. - versus Battleford BVC Impact
  • Saturday, 11:15 a.m. -  v.s. Regina QCVC Royal Fusion
  • Saturday, 1:30 p.m. - v.s. Regina CVC Cougars

Quarter-finals are to begin Saturday at 3:45 p.m.

Semifinals are slated for Sunday at 11:15 a.m., while the final game is scheduled for Sunday at 2:45 p.m.

Teams across Saskatchewan can register for the Volleyball Canada 15U Canadian West Open (nationals), but are placed into different divisions and pools based on their final rankings at provincials.

The national competition is being held in Regina from May 19-22.
