The Carlyle Curling Club is hosting a Funspiel later this month with the hopes of continuing to encourage youth to take part in the popular winter sport.

The one-day event will be held on Saturday, January 20th for students in grade 3 to grade 12.

Students from grades 3 to 8 will take to the ice first followed by the high school students.

Both the high school and elementary school systems took part in successful junior programs, explained Robin Brown, board member of the Carlyle Curling Club.

Registration fees for the junior category are $40 a team or $10 a person. For the senior category, it is $60 a team.

“We’ve got several good sponsors from around the area, who donated lots of prizes and the entry fees will be donated back to the players,” said Brown.

You can register by calling Robin Brown at (306) 575-7349 or you can email carlylecurlingclub@gmail.com

While this event is aimed at children and youth, curling remains popular in Carlyle with leagues of all ages.

“It’s a sport you can do pretty much your whole life, with people in our club grades 5 and 6 up to people in their 70s and 80s,” said Brown.
