Two days of roaring action got underway this last weekend with Odessa hosting their 8th annual Thunder on the Prairies. Tons of activities went on with truck and tractor pulls, horse pulls, kids sled pulls, monster truck rides and a show and shine. The kids really enjoyed the event with the monster truck rides, bouncy castles, and even toys for sale at a stand.

The rain managed to stay away long enough to finish the pulls on Friday and Saturday turned into a gorgeous sunny day. Trucks and tractors from all over came to the pulls including Alberta & Manitoba and all the way from the United States with the farthest crew coming from Illinois.

Thunder on the Prairies continues to grow every year with seating needing to be added to accommodate the growing audience. Annette Gaetz, a volunteer with Thunder on the Prairies, states just how much the event has grown over the years. “Like Field of Dreams, build it and they will come because that's exactly what it is and every year it has been growing and growing. Last year was really huge and this year it's just been growing, and people are coming from Alberta, Manitoba this year. We got our United States people back and all over Saskatchewan.”

An event of this size with so many new people attending requires a lot of planning and help from volunteers to make it happen. Annette mentions that over 100 volunteers and sponsors helped with setting it up, an incredible feat for a town with only a population of 225.
