It is the last thing many want to see in early September - an extended period of rain.

Environment Canada is calling for upwards of 20 millimetres of rain to fall on Weyburn and area over the next four days, and the timing couldn’t be worse with harvest operations already behind the five-year average.

“September is one of the driest months with respect to rainfall, so to see this much coming through is not necessarily unusual but I don’t think it’s appreciated,” said Terri Lang, a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada.

The rains started Monday morning and are expected to last well into the week.

Lang explained that the sun is expected to make it’s return to the southeast Friday, with dry conditions anticipated for much of the weekend.
