There were a few disturbances on Weyburn streets this past week.

Weyburn police received a report of a woman threatening self-harm and was found to have self-inflicted wounds. Deputy Chief Rod Stafford said police always suggest someone in this situation go to the hospital.

"We'll often even drive them there to make sure they get there," said Stafford.

He said in this type of situation, under the provisions of the Mental Health Act, police can arrest an individual against their will to transport them to the hospital for assessment. Stafford said disturbances such as public intoxication and mental health calls are more frequent at this time of year, possibly due to stress from the long winter months and financial instability.

There was also a domestic disturbance call reported to police, as well as a highly intoxicated male found downtown and a single vehicle collision due to medical distress.
