The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are heading out this morning to kick off their playoff series against the Humboldt Broncos.

Before they left, however, players Max Monette, Dazza Mitchell, and Jerome Maharaj joined Dara Currie on the Country 106.7 Morning Show and let her know what they thought the best part of this regular season was.

“There's so many to pick from, you know," said Mitchell. “The last 15 games there we got on a real big heater and bumped ourselves up to 6th place. There are good moments all throughout really. It’s really, really hard to pick one specific moment.”

Maharaj and Monette, however, had the same moment stick out in their minds.

“Probably winning the Highway 39 cup against Estevan,” said Maharaj. “I think that's a pretty big rivalry and I think it was pretty exciting to win that one this year.”

“I probably have to agree with Jerome,” added Monette. “When I was here last year, you know, we lost it and it just left a bitter, bitter taste in my mouth. So the fact that we could come back this year and win it was a really good feeling.”

With the regular season now behind them, they can look ahead to the playoffs and what lies in store.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how far we can go,” said Mitchell. “I think this team is the best Weyburn has had in probably a decade and I'm just really excited to get going in the playoffs and see how well we can do.”

"Yeah beating Humboldt and moving on to Flin Flon because I think that they're going to win the next round and I wouldn't mind seeing them in the second one,” laughed Maharaj.

Monette added that he likes the odds the Red Wings are facing.

“I think we’ve got a good chance to beat them,” he said. “And just moving on to that second round for Weyburn, it's been a while since we've made it to the second round, so it'd be really good for the community.”

Of course, a big part of the season is the support from the fans and all three players were incredibly grateful for the support throughout the year and had messages for them

"We play on March 26th and 27th at home and I really hope everyone comes out and supports the team,” said Mitchell. "It's going to be a great series and some great games, so I hope everyone's there. Let's fill the CPP and make some noise.”

“And thank you for showing your support all year,” added Maharaj. “We hope to see you in playoffs.”

The Red Wings will be holding a send-off at Crescent Point Place this morning at 11:00 for those wanting to head out and send their best wishes to the team.

The first game in their series against Humboldt goes tonight in Humboldt. You'll be able to catch all the action on Great Plains Ford Red Wing Radio Country 106.7 starting with the pre-game show at 7:15.
