The Legacy Park Elementary Performing Arts Club is putting on its first-ever musical Wednesday and Thursday evening.

Since opening in September, the school has been unable to have any plays or musicals until now.

“Back in March and April, our grade fives and sixes showed interest in doing a musical play,” said Holly Butz, music teacher at Legacy Park Elementary School. “I had been looking at this Dorothy in Wonderland play for a long time and I knew our students would do a fabulous job of it, so we got to work right away.”

Butz added they had a group of set design artists who worked with Grade 6 teacher, Miss Andrews.

“Every time we met to work on lines and songs, they would work with her,” said Butz.

Dorothy in Wonderland is a combination of Alice in Wonderland, and The Wizard of Oz.

“In our play, both worlds meet. We have a lot of fun with the Lion, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man now that they have their heart and their courage, and their brains. They navigate the world of Alice in Wonderland, and they meet all of those characters there.”

The performances are taking place Wednesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Legacy Park School Gym. Admission is free, but there is a silver collection at the door.
