Lisa Moen is a multi-award-winning singer/songwriter/country music personality that grew up in Outlook, Saskatchewan and is now the mother of two energetic children!

She has been performing her music professionally for close to 18 years now. Her father Myles Myrol was part of the Myrol Brothers Band, who were popular in Saskatchewan during the 90's. Myrol has been playing bass and drums in Moen's band for most of her career, and Moen wouldn't have it any other way.

She is actively involved with the Saskatoon chapter of the SCMA and took on the role as Social Media Host at the 2017 SCMA Awards and Access TV Host for the 2018, 2019 and now 2020 SCMA Awards. She also films all of her music videos in Saskatchewan and loves to work with other Saskatchewan artists as much as she possibly can.

Moen just conducted the red carpet portion of this year's SCMA Awards last weekend from her home where she interviewed thirty-four artists and industry people across two days.

And somehow she found the time in her busy schedule to chat with us about the thirty-first annual SCMA Awards show that is taking place virtually tomorrow, where she is up for Interactive Artist of the Year & Country Music Person of the Year. She also told us what she's been up to lately and much more.

"This has all been kind of neat in a different way," told Moen. "Music has so much power. I've always believed that. I come from a country music family and I've seen our family go through some bad times. And music has such huge strength and power to connect people. And I think during this time and during so many times in our lives when we need something to bond us together and something to inspire us. I think music is such a good way to do just that. And I think at the end of the day we're all in it together and we're all survivors. And I think music just puts the energy in us and makes people smile, it makes people happy. So I think now more than ever if you have the gift of music in any sort of way, whether it be writing, singing, or playing an instrument or anything, I think now is the time to come out of the woodwork and share it."

How did this whole shutdown effect your music career?

"We had to cancel all of our shows in the summer," explained Moen. "We had a full summer booked up. But like many other artists you just roll with it. I mean, we're all sad but we're all in the same situation. I think when we're all back together and this is all said and done the music business in Saskatchewan is just going to thrive! 'Cause we're all excited to get back at 'er and I think music and shows are such a celebration of people. So I think when we get back out there it's just going to be fantastic!"

What new music of yours can people look out for?

"I haven't dropped anything lately but I have a song that I'm going to be releasing in about a week or so," answered Moen. "There will probably be a video for it as well. It's called 'Time Not Wasted' and it's very meaningful, especially with what's going on right now. It's about not wasting time, living in the moment, living your life and using your time wisely. And I actually wrote it two years ago with my guitar player Garth Howell, but I just felt in my heart that now was the time to release it. And Jesse Weiman and I recently released a cover of a Disney song. We just did a cover of 'A Whole New World' and we posted it on all the socials and it did really well. This is from Aladdin. I sang the part of Jasmine and Jesse played the part of Aladdin. And we put together this song shortly before the pandemic. We got together one night to record this song. Not thinking we'd ever do anything with it. It was just for fun. And then a couple weeks ago Jesse said 'hey, we should release this song'. So we actually did the video separately. So I did the video at my house and he did his video at his house. And his girlfriend, who is the other half of Nolita Studios, she pieced it all together. Then we released it on social media and it got tons and tons of views, so we were really happy with that! And the other night I did a cover of 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'. And I did this cover in my basement and I just absolutely love this song. I've been singing a lot of covers lately primarily because now is a good time to get into some new music. So I was singing this cover and if you notice half way through this video my dog was siting in front of a barn door that leads into my music room. And I didn't know this was happening, but she poked her head in literally while I was singing my heart out. So she popped in for a moment and then left and the door slowly closed. And the timing couldn't have been any funnier. And the whole time I had no idea that my dog totally photo bombed my video."

What have you been doing lately to pass the time and stay productive?

"There's so many things," Moen exclaimed. "I've been songwriting, creating videos, doing some fun stuff and learning how to use technology now more than ever. As an artist using technology programs to do some recording and throwing some tracks around to my band members that I have not seen since March seventeenth. So it's been kind of neat to communicate with them in a different way and make music by correspondence. And I live on an acreage just outside of Saskatoon so I've been thinking of putting on something even for my neighbors. Just pulling out a sound system on my front porch and singing some songs out there for whoever's driving by. I think it would be kind of neat."

What are your thoughts on this year's virtual SCMA Awards show?

"The award show is going to be totally awesome," said Moen. "I didn't have anything to do with the award show production. I just did the red carpet event recently. It was an exciting event. Basically in two days I got on a Zoom like meeting with a producer from Access TV in North Battleford. And we interviewed I think it was thirty-four people in two days. And it was really cool to chat with everybody. It was all the nominees. So industry people, artists and all the nominees for this year's awards. It was really neat to touch base and see everybody in their homes, in their own natural state I guess. So that was actually pretty cool! So I'm excited to catch the award show on May sixteenth. I'd say whoever's been working on all of it has been doing a wicked job of it. I'm just happy that they're doing this at all. It's really awesome!"

And do you have any inspirational words to leave with our audience?

"I just want to say to everyone, please take care. Take care of yourselves and stay positive. We are all in this together and we're all going to thrive and shine when we come out of this. So stay safe everybody. We're thinking about you. Enjoy the music and enjoy the music that this music station plays. And we're all celebrating all of these gifts that people are sharing. So keep on enjoying the music," Moen expressed.
