Weyburn Comprehensive School has a history of developing skilled athletes who have gone on to have success at University and beyond. A new Sports Wall of Fame is being created to display the achievements of Weyburn students in sports.

"There is a group of us who want to identify and possibly contact the individuals that played a university sport and were former Weyburn comprehensive students," explained Blake Johnson, Teacher of Weyburn Comprehensive School.

Johnson and the wall of fame committee are asking for help to identify the athletes and find information from their university career and a photo.

There will also be a special recognition for those who went beyond the university level including those who went to take part in the Olympics or professional including Graham Delaet, Brett Jones and Brendan Labatte.

The idea came from Johnson seeing schools and rinks with successful athletes honoured on their walls.

The Weyburn Comp started in 1913 and was officially opened September 10th as Weyburn Collegiate. The name was changed to Weyburn Comprehensive School in the early 70's.

With 105 years of history, there are a lot of sports to work from a lot of years to go through.

The committee already has some names from the 50's and 60's.

Johnson said he has been in contact with over 40 athletes or their parents and one person who has really been helpful is Lynn Kot

"Her husband Daryl Kot was famous because of the coaching he did but he also played football at the University of Saskatchewan."

Johnson added that anyone who has questions or suggestions of student-athletes can contact him or Darren Abel through WCS.
