While he saw quite a bit of time on the mound this season while playing with the University of Calgary Dinos this past season, Cam Williams has rarely pitched for the Weyburn Beavers. Before this season, that is.

The right-hander from Vancouver was tabbed for the season-opener against the Swift Current 57’s, where he went eight innings, striking out four, and helping lead the Beavers to a win in the first game of the season. His efforts had him named as the WMBL’s Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 31st to June 8th.

“I mean at first, I honestly, didn’t really believe it, it was a bit of a shock, but it is nice to be recognized for that, especially not being the most experienced guy on the mound,” Williams told Discover Weyburn.

In his fourth season with the Beavers, Williams has spent most of his time at third base, although he has played first base as well, and has been the designated hitter on a number of occasions.

Williams, along with the rest of the Beavers, will head to Regina for Monday’s game against the Red Sox. Weyburn is looking to extend their winning streak to eight games to start the 2018 season.
