The Weyburn Iron Pigs played host to the Regina Capitals for a doubleheader Sunday, as action in the Qu'Appelle Valley Baseball League resumed. The Pigs were coming off a win over the Regina Trappers to start the season.

It would be the Capitals, though, who would be the ones on top, with a win in both games.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Capitals came out quickly to get in front, building up a 3-0 lead by the third ending. The bats from the Iron Pigs would kick in, though, as they looked to even things up. In the sixth inning, Weyburn added four runs, thanks in part to a two-RBI single from Mike Onstad.

The one run lead would evaporate in the seventh inning, though, as the Capitals would score four to take a 7-4 lead. The Pigs were unable to overcome the margin in the bottom of the inning and took the 7-4 loss.

Justin Beahm had a strong game on the mound, going four innings, and striking out seven. Adam Ziegler struck out another four in three innings work.

In the second game, it would be the Capitals all over the Iron Pigs. They came away with a 12-2 win in the second match-up of the doubleheader.

The next game for the Iron Pigs will be on Thursday when they travel to Moose Jaw to face the Padres.
