It was a good day on the course Thursday for Graham DeLaet at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut. He fired off a 5-under 65, which had him head to the clubhouse in a tie for third. By the time everyone was finished, he was in fourth, just two strokes back of the leader.

Starting his day Thursday on the back nine, DeLaet began with back-to-back birdies. On 10, he fired his second shot just a foot away from the pin, almost eagling the par-4. On the par-3 11th hole, he finished off with another birdie, putting him at mius-2.

After making the turn, the strong play from DeLaet continued. He birdied 1, with a nice 17-foot putt. On the fifth hole, he looked like he was going to be in some trouble, as he tees shot found the rough just off the green. A chip from the rough, though, saved the hole, and he recorded a birdie on the par-3. The par-5 sixth hole, a long 574 yards, looked like a par-4 for DeLaet, as his second shot sailed 250 yards onto the green, settling eight feet from the cup. He made the putt to finish it off and was at minus-6.

He would run into a little trouble on his final hole of the day. He overshot the green on the par-4 9th hole and would have to scramble back onto the green. He almost saved par but ended up just short of the pin on his fourth shot. He would tap it in for a bogey, and he finished at 5-under.

DeLaet will be back on the course Friday. He tees off just after 10:00 a.m. Saskatchewan time, playing on the front nine to start the day.
