The Weyburn Red Wings and Estevan Bruins wrote another chapter in the Battle of Highway 39 last night.

The Red Wings got by the Bruins 6-3 at the Civic Auditorium in a game that will be remembered for a brawl at the end of regulation.

As the buzzer sounded, one of the Bruins forwards took a run at Red Wing Goaltender A.J. Whiffen and then the melee began.

Players squared off behind the Red Wing net and while this was happening, Bruin Goaltender Tommy Legault made his way to centre ice and wanted to start something with Whiffen.

Whiffen was forced into the Red Wing bench, but that didn't stop Legault.

Legault skated behind the Red Wing bench and started to throw a handful of punches with his blocker.

Players from the Bruins left the bench to get in on the action as the officials tried to regain order.

The league is expecting to hand down some fines and suspensions.

Red Wing coach Darcy Pindus says he was happy with the way his guys stood up for themselves and played a solid road game to earn the 2 points.

Rhys Thomas scored 3 goals, Carter Sellinger, Rhett Bly and Kyle Johnson also scored in the win.

Weyburn improves their record to 2-1 on the season and will be in the Flin Flon this weekend for a pair of games.

One other game last night, Nipawin 5 Battlefords 1.
