Weyburn Lacrosse Association held its inaugural awards night last week, taking the opportunity to celebrate the players who helped lacrosse grow in Weyburn.

Over the past few years, Weyburn Lacrosse has grown exponentially. In fact, this past summer roughly 25% of the club's U13 through U17 groups participated in national competition. 

To celebrate, the club held its awards night which saw three awards per team (Most Valuable Player, Most Sportsmanlike, and Most Improved). Additionally, they announced a male and female athlete of the year from across the whole organization.

Callie Dammann was named the Female Athlete of the Year while Sawyer Leko was the Male Athlete of the Year. Both Dammann and Leko have represented Weyburn and Saskatchewan at National levels. 

For the team awards, the U15 Rattlers named Alex Labrecque as MVP with Rylan Keeler taking Most Improved and Leo Missal taking Most Sportsmanlike.

For the U17 Rattlers, Blake Becker was named MVP with Brody Morrice taking Most Improved and Nash Hignett being named Most Sportsmanlike.

The U11 Credit Union Thrashers named Landon Leroux MVP, Jett Fox was Most Improved and Jep Ferguson was named Most Sportsmanlike.

The U11 Young Fellows Thrashers named Cohen Baumgartner as MVP, Mason Bjorkland as Most Improved and Paislee Besharah was named Most Sportsmanlike.

The U13 Weyburn Security Thrashers announced Liam Hartfield as MVP with Harrison Baumgartner taking Most Improved and Lincoln Lasko as Most Sportsmanlike.

The U15 Weyburn Young Fellow Thrashers named Quinton Stinson as MVP with Zachary Marcotte taking Most Improved and Branson Law took Most Sportsmanlike.

For the U17 Weyburn Panther Drilling Thrashers, Ryder Hignett was named MVP with James Ashworth being named Most Improved and Jack Missal taking Most Sportsmanlike. 

Weyburn Lacrosse Association noted that they were appreciative to the help of Weyburn Credit Union who sponsored the awards.
