The Weyburn Legion held a Mother's Day Brunch yesterday.

"I'll tell you. Mother's Day at the Legion Branch 47 is always a smashing success," shared Legion board member and volunteer, Jerry Ponto. "We're glad to see the community of Weyburn and come out to support the Legion and most importantly, to support the mothers throughout our community."

While the Legion does host a Brunch on the second Sunday of every month, they always see their greatest numbers for Mother's Day.

"Usually for Mother's Day we're north of 300. A typical brunch is a couple hundred people," he noted.

In fact, the lineup outside prior to the doors opening at 10:00 a.m. was impressive.

"There was a terrific lineup," Ponto commented. "Everybody was chomping at the bit. I think everybody had pre-arranged the dates with the mothers in their lives, so we're just blessed and glad to have them here at the Legion."

He said the Legion will celebrate its volunteers tonight at 7:00 p.m. tonight.

"We have our membership awards down in the auditorium here, so we'll be handing out long term member pins and awards, as well as certificates for volunteerism."

Ponto added that it takes hundreds of volunteers to keep their various programs running.

"It takes hundreds, over the course of the year, with many different events, from Remembrance Day, needless to say, right through the calendar year and up to the next event."
