Its an important time of the year for many children.

The new school year is just around the corner and for many its their very first day.

This is also a good time to take extra driving precautions and warn children about road rules especially when crossing the streets.

Inspector for the Weyburn City Police, Russ Chartrand says some of the peak times to really be on the lookout are before and after shcool, as well as during the lunch hour.

He adds motorists should drive slower at these times and suggests children wear brighter, more visible colours for drivers to be able to see them better.

Once school safety patrollers are underway, the road rules will be more enforced and the children will have some extra help.
