The Weyburn Red Wings will have a lot of firepower amongst their forwards this season, with a lineup capable of having all four lines produce goals, night in and night out. With the elite talent on the front end, the Red Wings have the ability to put their team in the best position to win every single game.

#4 Jake Mulder - Abbotsford, BC, 6’2”, 192 lbs - After three seasons in the BC Midget AAA league, Mulder will be looking to continue improving his numbers as he jumps to the junior ranks. The 18-year-old put up 74 points in 118 games, while also showing a bit of an edge, recording 158 penalty minutes in the same time span.

#9 William Cruise - Steinbach, MB, 5’9”, 179 lbs - In his first game with the Red Wings last season, Cruise scored the first goal of the game for Weyburn in a tight battle against the Melville Millionaires. To further demonstrate his ability to perform under pressure, he was one of the top face-off men on the team through the stretch last year.

This year, the Wings will be looking to the 19-year-old to return to his point a game form he demonstrated during his final year of midget hockey. Combined with his strong skill set already, it will make for a promising season.

#10 Tyran Brown - Weyburn, SK, 6’5”, 232 - Entering his 20-year-old season with the Wings, the fourth year veteran of the Wings will be an invaluable asset as they get the 2018-19 campaign underway.

Over the past three seasons, Brown has continued to improve in terms of his point totals, and goal totals and he will more than likely want the trend to continue this year. He is also one of the leaders of the team.

#12 Sean Olson - Delta, BC, 6’3”, 203 lbs - Along with Cruise, Olson was instrumental in the face-off circle last season. Coming over to the team as an 18-year-old, he quickly demonstrated his skills and earned his place in the roster. Now, with another year of experience, he will be looking to improve on his points total from last year, where he was limited to just six goals and nine assists in forty games.

#15 Quade Froese - Elm Creek, MB, 5’11”, 193 lbs - An offseason addition to the Red Wings, Froese is another veteran of the Pembina Valley Hawks who has made his way west to Weyburn. The 18-year-old rookie isn’t a stranger to the junior game, either. Last season, he played with the Pembina Valley Twisters in the MMJHL, where he picked up 27 points in 43 games.

#16 Bryce Krauter - Winnipeg, MB, 6’0”, 174 lbs - Coming to the Wings this year from the Interlake Lightning Midget AAA program, Krauter is a highly touted prospect for the Red Wings organization. He was signed back in May, and he has shown he has the ability to skate at the junior level.

Over his midget career, he was nearly a point a game player, picking up 47 points in 41 games last season. He has a touch of grit as well, racking up 55 PIMs in those 41 games.

#19 Connor Pyne - White City, SK, 6’3”, 206 lbs - A second-round pick by the Red Wings in the 2015 Bantam Draft, Pyne came to the team after starting last season with the Seattle Thunderbirds. He never played a game in the WHL, instead, dressing for 40 with the Red Wings where he picked up four goals and ten points.

A big frame, Pyne is strong on the puck, can skate well, and has a good eye for the development of the play. He isn’t afraid to mix things up and has the potential to be a point a game player with the team.

#20 Jordan Kazymyra - Regina, SK, 5’7”, 157 lbs - Size doesn’t determine the skill a player has. While not the biggest guy on the roster, Kazymyra can play with a fire and determination unrivalled by most.

Last season, the 19-year-old showed, in his rookie year, his goal-scoring ability, racking up 39 points, including 21 goals. A player who has hovered around the point a game mark in midget and junior, he will be looked at to continue the trend this season.

#21 Sven Schefer - Winkler, MB, 6’1”, 168 lbs - The 18-year-old rookie is yet another product of the Pembina Valley midget AAA system. Have spent the past two seasons there on a full-time basis, last year was his break-out season, with 53 points in 48 games.

When a player comes to the SJHL from out of province, there is occasionally a question about on-ice chemistry, but for Schefer, he will have it here in Weyburn, taking the ice with a number of teammates from midget and bantam.

#22 Khale Skinner - Sylvan Lake, AB, 6’2”, 207 lbs - The 18-year-old rookie came into training camp this year, and impressed the coaching staff, earning himself a spot on the opening day roster. He has the ability to score, picking up 24 goals in 34 games last season, while chipping in another 18 assists. He isn’t afraid to muck it up when needed, racking up 155 penalty minutes over 68 games playing in the South Central Alberta Hockey League. He will be a strong addition to a Red Wings lineup which is being touted as the most offensively skilled team in a number of years.

#23 Ben Hiltz - Weyburn, SK, 6’3”, 183 lbs - If there was an award for the most improved player in the SJHL, Hiltz would have won it hands-down last season. The 19-year-old put up 56 points in 51 games in his sophomore year, after just eight points in the previous season.

Hiltz has speed, size and talent, which make him an invaluable asset to the team. An invitee to training camp for Team Canada West last year, and a member of the SJHL team at the SJHL/MJHL Showcase, Hiltz will be looking to improve off of last year’s successes to lead the team this season.

#24 Burke Johnstone - Yellow Grass, SK, 6’3”, 223 lbs - Over the past few years, the former captain of the Notre Dame Hounds Midget AAA team has demonstrated toughness, determination, a winning spirit, and strong leadership. He played two years with the Notre Dame Hounds, before being traded to the Dryden Ice Dogs last year. With Dryden, Johnstone helped guide the team to an appearance in the Dudley Hewitt Cup.

His leadership abilities as a 20-year-old will be looked to by the team this season.

#27 Rhett Frey - Weyburn, SK, 5’9”, 192 lbs - While not the biggest player on the ice, he is built solid, and has a reputation for being a strong leader on and off the ice.

The local product is coming to Weyburn after spending the past two seasons with the Tisdale Trojans, where he wore the C last year. He isn’t necessarily known for being the flashiest goal scorer on the ice, but he has a reputation for helping light the lamp at Crescent Point Place. As a member of the Midget AA Wings, he had 37 points in 38 games.

#28 Cade Kowalski - Morden, MB,  5’11”, 182 lbs - The 2018-19 co-Rookie of the Year in the SJHL, Kowalski led the team in scoring last season, with 60 points. Kowalski has a keen eye for the game and is known more for setting goals up rather than scoring them, even though he has scored some pretty big goals with the Red Wings.

Having never had a PPG of less than 1 since making the jump from bantam to midget, Kowalski will again be looked at by the Red Wings to help engineer points on the scoreboard every night.
