family soccer day

The Weyburn Soccer Association held their family soccer day over the weekend, which featured a special presentation to a local man.

Scott Benning, who has been with the Weyburn Soccer Association for 17 years, was presented with the Saskatchewan Soccer Association volunteer of the year award and the SouthEast Connection Award for Sport.

"Soccer in Weyburn has grown from 17 years ago when he got involved," said Leslie Blythe, President of the Saskatchewan Soccer Association. "We talked about the work that he's done with the community and the partnerships he's built and the relationships he's built. That's a legacy he'll leave."

Benning and his family will be moving to Winnipeg in the near future, but is proud of how far Weyburn has come.

"We've really developed a soccer community in Weyburn the last 15 years." said Benning.

Weyburn now has over 650 participants in the Weyburn Soccer Association.
