It was the return of Edwin Encarnacion to the Rogers Centre in Toronto Monday night. While the fans showed their love for the slugger, who signed with the Cleveland Indians in the off-season, the Blue Jays would be the ones smiling after the game, as they double up Cleveland 4-2.

The Jays were lead by the offense of Ryan Goings, who took Cleveland starter Trevor Bauer deep in the second inning for a two-run shot. The home run was the third of the season for Goins. In the third, the scoreboard was helped out by Justin Smoak, who added a two-run single.

On the mound, Marcus Stroman threw six shutout innings before giving way to the bullpen. Stroman struck out one while walking two and giving up six hits. The pitching staff was helped out by the defense, in particular, Kevin Pillar. The center fielder made yet another circus-like catch, this time extending his body to make a diving catch in deep center field, robbing Jose Martinez of a hit.

As for Encarnacion, the fans gave him a standing ovation when he came to the plate for the first time in the game. He finished with two hits in his first game back in Toronto.

The two teams will meet again Tuesday night in Toronto for the second game of their three-game set. It all starts at 5:00 p.m. with the pregame show. You can listen live on Saskatchewan’s Home of Blue Jays Baseball, AM1190.
