After the announcement of Weyburn's first doggy daycare a few months ago, owners were patiently awaiting the opening of Fido's Place. That day officially came today, as the daycare is open for business.

"It feels very exciting. It's a long time coming and we are loving it," owner of Fido's Place CindyAnn Boehm said. "We have a lot of furry friends running around the daycare today."

Fido's Place is a long time in the making. After a few discussions with City Council and all the work that goes into starting a brand new business, Boehm and her staff are relieved the big day is finally here. Although they're still waiting on a few last minute additions to the daycare, the building is prepped and ready for a group of playful pups.

While she will be there a lot of the time, Boehm has hired a great staff to help her out. Your dog will always be in capable hands at Fido's Place.

"All our staff are certified in master animal behaviour. We also have five of my staff certified for animal first-aid," she said.

Dog assessments are required ahead of time before your fur baby will be looked after. This is to make sure they play nice with others and get along with the trainers. From there, the dogs will be allowed to run around, play or snooze with other dogs as they like. Boehm wants it to be a "fun but relaxed environment" for all dogs.

Aside from looking after your pooch for the day, Fido's Place is also offering a unique service to the Opportunity City — a pet taxi.

"We are offering a pet taxi service, which will bring your pet to Fido's Place or take it home," Boehm explained. "Even if you're not in the daycare, this taxi service is there to go to the groomers, the vet or wherever else your pet needs to go. If you wish to go with your pet, we have room for you as well."

Aside from their spacious indoor facility, they are also working on developing the backyard that will eventually be half-an-acre of space for dogs to run freely or play in the pools. Of course, the frigid winter is hampering those plans at the moment.

The services they offer are something that has been missing for pet owners in Weyburn and Boehm is hoping to find a nice market. As of now, dogs of all sizes now have a place to go instead of being cooped up at home.
