With the increase in the temperature and canola prices now at record levels

David Vanthuyne is an agronomy specialist with the Canola Council of Canada.

He says leaving a four thousand bushel bin with a crop value of over $50,000 unchecked is a big mistake.

What will happen the temperature warms up outside, it warms up the air in the grain bin forcing the cold air down the centre, which can cause the canola to re-absorb moisture resulting in spoilage.

Vanthuyne says having a core temperature of about 10 degrees Celcius will reduce any chances of spoilage happening.

Aeration is the most effective way to stabilize temperature and moisture within the bin.
