When the Weyburn Beavers take to the field Thursday for their home opener, they will be carrying some championship momentum.

Head coach Cam Williams is also the bench boss for the University of Calgary Dinos baseball team. They finished up the Canadian College Baseball Conference championships on the weekend the first-ever title in school history, beating the Victoria College Golden Tides 8-7 in a thrilling championship matchup.

Williams isn’t the only member of the championship team that is coming to Weyburn. Infielders Brett Potter and Cale Yuzdepski were on the field with the Dinos for the championship, as was catcher Eric Wirun. Pitcher Ethan Webster will be pitching for the Beavers this season and was also a part of the championship-winning team.

The Beavers will open up the 2023 WCBL season Thursday at Tom Laing Park when they host the Regina Red Sox.
