With a little imagination, play is always just around the corner. That's why Saskatchewan inMotion is bringing the Community Chase to Weyburn.

“We host with the help of local volunteers, and we're very excited,” said Communication Strategist with Saskatchewan inMotion, Kim Herperger. “We are coming to Weyburn August 23rd, 1:00 p.m. in River Park is where we will kick off, and then, from there, there will be six different activities stationed throughout the city that people will play their way through.”

She explained the reason they do the Community Chase in various communities in the province.

“We bring this to town to sort of raise awareness and try to find out if there are people in the communities who are interested in maybe working with us to get kids moving more and going through a more formal process,” said Herperger. “There's a lot of inMotion activity in Weyburn already, and that is great, so I'm anticipating that this'll be a good event.”

She said she hopes the Community Chase will pique the interest of more locals.

“[We’re] hoping that the Chase is just the beginning and a way to introduce the community to Saskatchewan inMotion and raise some awareness of kids moving more,” she said. “Hopefully we'll meet some folks who are interested in taking things further, and if there's enough support in the community we'll introduce our Community Action Process, and bring the community together to create a plan for getting local kids more active.”

She said some events may be more traditional sport-related, while others could be old favourites with a twist. Some use outdoor spaces in unique ways, such as turning a parking lot into a court sport. Obstacle courses and tailgate games are also some of the activities.

"Working with the space that's available, the season, of course, and the local volunteers will choose six activities within the community," she noted.

The deadline to register is August 16th.
