During Monday's City Council meeting, time was spent giving honour to two long-term Weyburn Parks Board members.

Councillor Winston Bailey presented Ray Hamm with a certificate for his 22 years of service on the Parks Board.

"I am honoured and humbled by the recognition. I have always enjoyed serving the people of Weyburn on the boards and committees of which I was a member and the Parks Board was certainly not an exception. One doesn't go into these things for the recognition but because you feel that you have something to contribute," said Hamm.

Hamm adds that he got involved 22 years ago at the request of fellow councillor, Marlene Nedelcov.

"She was the Chair of the Parks Board at the time and she believed that my interests aligned nicely with the goals and activities of the Board. She was right."

Hamm says that anyone considering joining the Parks Board shouldn't hesitate.

"Time commitment is minor and the members of the board are a fantastic group to work with. Making Weyburn more beautiful and family friendly is a noble activity." He adds that his favourite park in the city is River Park.

Gary Anderson has served on the Parks Board for 21 years.
