It began as a way for local artists to showcase their works across the floors of the Signal Hill Arts Centre. This lead to its original name: 4 Festive Floors. This year, thanks to the selection of a new venue for the show, it is being called 1 Festive Floor.

Regan Lanning is the curator for the City of Weyburn. She explained the decision to move had a few reasons, but one primarily had to do with transportation and accessibility inside the Signal Hill Arts Centre.

“The elevator sometimes decides it doesn’t want to work for us, and getting it fixed is time-consuming,” Lanning explained. “Last year the elevator went out a week before. We got it fixed, and then it died again a day after the sale.”

The decision to seek a new venue to avoid any further elevator issues led to the selection of the Cugnet Centre for the facility. It also necessitated the name change, as the Cuignet Centre will comprise of just the one floor.

This year, the Weyburn Arts Council is anticipating 40 artists to have their work on display. With the limited number of spots, Lanning is encouraging artists to get in touch with her as quickly as possible to book their spot.

“We’re filling up very quickly, so if you are on the fence, or if I sent you an application, and you haven’t sent it back to me, make that a priority,” Lanning highlighted.

With the future construction of the new recreation and cultural facility in Weyburn, the annual show will relocate once again. Until then, the show is expected to remain at the Cugnet Centre. With the reduction from four floors to one, the Weyburn Arts Council will be looking for a new name for the show going forward.

“We’re having a name our event contest, so when you give your silver collection and you get your venue map, you’ll also get a little piece of paper which says ‘What should we name our event?’,” explained Lanning.

The show will be held on November 17th, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Cugnet Centre.
