While this week has been a fair bit cooler than last week it is still warm enough for residents to begin utilizing the outdoor pool at the Weyburn Leisure Centre.

The pool opened on Monday only to have to shut down that same day due to mechanical issues. As of today the pool is not officially open just yet as they are awaiting test results from the pool water.

They do hope to have the pool back open on Thursday, June 10th.

"So with the COVID-19 restrictions kind of easing up right now capacity is currently 65 patrons per swim but you must pre-register for those swims," explained Paige Tenbult, Communications Coordinator for the City of Weyburn. "If you're looking to take classes or you're looking to get involved in lane swims all of that booking is done through our City of Weyburn website. You can just book in advance the times and dates for you. Our classes do fill up quickly just because there is a capacity limit on these classes."

Current pass holders can contact the WLC front desk at 306-848-3280 for questions regarding extensions.

"So swimmers can expect that over the first few weeks of the pool being open that it is going to be a little bit cooler in the water," Tenbult told. "That's just because the pool needs to adjust and get ready for the season. So we're just sending out that warning that it's not always the warmest especially in the beginning but it's great to have our outdoor pool open this summer."

Some great news for parents and children's guardians to look forward to this year. Fletcher Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services have sponsored all of the outdoor pool's public swims on Friday afternoon during the months of July and August. These swims are for children and youth and you can pre-register for those on the City of Weyburn's Leisure Centre page.
