The first Ducks and Diamonds event in support of Ducks Unlimited was held this weekend and it's being hailed a success. With 110 guests, raffles, and auctions, the event raised over $10,000.

"We had a really great response from everyone that was there. People had a lot of fun," shared Weyburn Ducks Unlimited committee member Megan Schick. "There's a few things that we would probably tweak for next year but overall we were very happy with the success of the event, with the flow of the event, and we've actually booked our next date, pending, is going to be March 21, 2020."

She said the Weyburn Ladies committee was thankful they had a lot of support, with 15 volunteers at the event and over $5,000 in donations from 48 local businesses.

Ladies at the dinner and drinks event got a chance to "dig for diamonds" during the evening at McKenna Hall on Saturday.

Shick said the money raised stays in Saskatchewan and goes towards forest conversion, protecting species and natural habitat, buying land, and education.

"Ducks Unlimited, we're not just for ducks, we benefit wildlife, people, and the environment, " said Schick. "We want to promote clean air, clean water, and abundant habitats for everyone."

The local organization is planning another fundraiser this fall. The annual couples fall fundraiser is on October 26. Tickets go on sale in June.
