What could have been a very terrible day for one elderly resident ended up being a very lucky one thanks to the Weyburn Police Service and one local hero.

"This is an incident that is very fortunate with the store employee being so alert and recognizing that this elderly individual was buying a very significant amount of gift cards," stated Deputy Chief Brent VanDeSype with the Weyburn Police Service. "So they spoke to that individual and found out what they were for. That individual indicated that they had won a lottery and they just had to provide a fee in order for their winnings to be released to them. So the store employee contacted the Police and helped the elderly person from losing quite a significant amount of money. So this is a very good story to hear."

The Deputy Chief said that everyone in the community should be as careful as possible when they go online and stated that "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is."
