Supporting 11 member agencies and seeing local talent on stage, the 34th annual Weyburn United Way Communithon has come to a close. Although they came up shy of reaching their goal of $130,000 during the 33-hour telethon, Weyburn and area pulled together to raise $122,576 for the 11 member agencies.

Weyburn United Way President Sabrina Kraft said in honour of the 50th anniversary of Weyburn United Way, they have designed a special booklet available at Communithon this year that highlights the organization's first five decades. Beginning in 1965 as a door-to-door fundraiser under United Appeal, the local organization has been developing it's biggest fundraiser, Communithon, since 1981.

"Now, in 2015, instead of going door-to-door we hold the Communithon and showcase local talent, but it's still the same purpose," said Kraft. " So that people don't have these member agencies coming to their door, basically with 11 agencies that's one almost every month, asking for funds cause we're just doing it one time, one place for all these organizations."

The total will likely continue to climb beyond the 33-hour fundraiser and we will update you when the final numbers roll in.
