The Olympia In Depth powerlifting club had a successful weekend at the Western Canadian Powerlifting Championships.

Marnel Spencer started it off early Friday with an 82.5 kg squat, 49.5 kg National record bench press, and 110 kg deadlift. Her 242 kg total gave her the best overall female Master lifter award.

In the sub-junior 63 kg category, Natalie Hastings squatted 65kg, had a bench press of 40 kg, and a deadlift of 87.5 kg. Brianna Swyryda lifted in the 84 kg sub-junior weight class and ended her day with 82.5 kg squat, 45 kg bench press, and 102.5 kg deadlift. These two young ladies were battling it out for overall best female sub-junior and Natalie ended up winning the honor.

Mikayla Lohse lifted in the 52 kg junior equipped category. She put up a National record 141 kg squat, 62.5 kg bench press, and a National record 156.5 kg deadlift. This was good for a National record total of 360 kg and gave her the best overall equipped female award.

On Saturday Charlene Cretin had a squat of 127.5 kg, 67.5 kg bench press, and a 145 kg deadlift. In the same session, Axel Lund squatted 152.5 kg, had a bench press of 97.5, and deadlifted 210 kg. Both of these lifters put up totals that qualified them for Nationals.

Sunday brought the Bench Press Only competition where Chance Doud had a bench press of 125 kg for a third place finish.

Kyle Paterson finished out the competition on Sunday in the 120 kg open weight class. He had a squat of 250 kg, a bench press of 175 kg, and a deadlift of 310 kg. This pull gave Kyle the Provincial deadlift record which previously was at 307.5 kg and a gold medal finish.

The club's next event will be hosting the In Depth powerlifting and bench press meet in Weyburn on November 4 at Olympia In Depth.
