The Yorkton Terriers will be short two veteran players for the remainder of the regular season, and part of the playoffs, after suspensions were given out by the SJHL Wednesday morning for two hits in Monday’s game against the Weyburn Red Wings.

Yorkton forward Cole Keenleyside was given an eight game suspension after he ran Red Wings netminder Carter Phair in the second period of Monday’s game. Keenleyside was given a five minute major for charging and a game misconduct. This is the second time this season Keenleyside has been suspended. He was given a two game ban in December for violating the SJHL’s social media policy.

Terriers captain Corwin Stevely was also suspended for a late hit that injured Red Wings rookie defenseman Carson Scheschuk. There was no penalty called on the play for the hit, although Stevely did receive a five minute major for fighting and a game misconduct after he dropped the gloves with Weyburn forward Jake Wozney, who challenged him after the hit.

The Terriers are currently one point up on the Wings for second in the Viterra Division, and sixth overall in the SJHL. Yorkton has three games remaining on the season, while the Red Wings have five. The teams will not be meeting again this regular season.
