The third day of competition at the Saskatchewan Winter Games saw Team South East collect a few more medals, as the first half of the competition wrapped up. The alpine skiing will be the only event from the first half which will continue into the second, due to weather delays.

In total, Team South East collected four medals yesterday, including two gold, for a total of 17 medals. This includes six gold medals.

Alpine Skiing

The mixed team ski-cross was delayed Wednesday due to the weather. Team South East, comprised of two athletes, Sam Penkala from Balgonie and Zachary Wozniak from Glenavon, are expected to be in action Thursday.

Curling

Landon Field’s rink from Weyburn finished up the male curling event in seventh place. They won the ⅞ classification game Wednesday against Parkland Valley by a final of 5-4.

Gymnastics

In the mixed trampoline finals, Julie Rush from Weyburn finished eighth in the competition, scoring a 26.834.

Hockey

Team South East was on the ice in the bronze medal game against Lakeland Wednesday morning. Lakeland would come out on top with a 3-1 win.

The female hockey tournament begins Thursday.

Judo

The skills competitions for Judo were held Wednesday.

In the male under 40 kg group, Joey Irwin from Kronau finished in 5th. This goes along with his bronze medal on Monday. In the over 50 kg male skill competition, Ashton Debruyne from Vibank came in 13th.

In the female skills competition, Montmartre’s Christina Stringer won her second gold of the games. Her teammate, Trysten Reder from Sedley finished eighth in the competition.

Speed Skating

The 3000m male race saw Tyan Cherepuschak from Pilot Butte finish in 13th. Ashton Kincaid finished in 16th place, while Donnie Elder was 28th.

In the male 2000m relay, South East finished in 4th with a time of 4:25.719.

Synchronized Swimming

Team South East captured bronze in the team event. The team consisted of Gemma Bittman, Haley Copeland, Nyla Dyck, Caitlin Graham, Hannah Mantei and Marlie Weinrauch from Estevan, and Alexis Vandermey, Savannah Pohl, Marley Kradovill and Megan Dammann from Weyburn.

Target Shooting

The individual air rifle and air pistol finals were held Wednesday, and Lauren Kohl picked up a gold medal, her third medal of the games. The Montmartre native scored 217.1 in the female air pistol final.

Indian Head’s Victoria Stewart picked up a bronze medal in the female air rifle competition. She had placed fifth in the preliminaries Tuesday and moved up to third Wednesday.
