After waking up to wind warnings Sunday, Weyburn is again bracing for windy conditions Monday, as another system is expected to sweep through the region in the afternoon.

Mike Russo, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said the winds on Sunday were funnelled through the region.

“We saw some wind gusts over 90 kilometres an hour; Estevan, about 93 was the peak wind, Weyburn, around 91 kilometres per hour,” Russo explained.

The system coming through Monday will be bringing precipitation to the central parts of the province, but not much is expected in the Weyburn area. Russo said if anything, there might be some rain showers or flurries. The winds are expected to return, though, and stick around right through into the evening.

“Probably looking at wind gusts up to 60, 70 kilometres per hour, once again out of the west-northwest,” Russo elaborated. “If there is a bright side to it all, it’s going to be bringing in some slightly milder temperatures.”

The daytime highs for the next few days are expected to remain above 0°.
