There was good news from SaskPower for cities and towns representatives at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) conference today.

The crown corporation announced they will be allocating money for streetlight upgrades across the province, with $400,000 ear-marked for Weyburn.

Mayor Marcel Roy is at the conference, along with other City representatives. Roy said the City is very happy about the announcement and the work will start this summer to replace the street light fixtures to LED fixtures in Weyburn's main corridors.

"They're about $200 a light fixture, plus labour. We're going to get quite a few of these done," explained Roy.

Advocating SaskPower to convert all existing streetlights to LED fixtures at the Crown Corporation’s expense happened to be one of the resolutions SUMA representatives were set to vote on during the four-day conference.

Saskatchewan's new premier, Scott Moe, also addressed SUMA delegates today in Regina, where he solidified his party's stance on carbon tax.
