The Weyburn Kinsmen & Kinettes will be hosting a Pumpkin Roll on October 14th, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., with the rolling beginning at 2:00 p.m.

"It's more like a derby-type style event. It's going to be really exciting," shared club Secretary Adrian Prybylski. "There's going to be cash prizes for different age categories, and there will be things you can do with your pumpkin after. We will be providing the pumpkins, you just have to pay for them."

He said the pumpkins are the only cost of entry to the competition, at $10 each. The event is otherwise free to attend unless you want some barbeque, which will be $5.

They have secured about 250 pumpkins for the event.

"We're really excited because I don't think this has ever really been done in Weyburn, and it'll be fun for the whole family. Anyone can sign up."

Prybylski said the selected location, at the top (south) end of Confederation Drive, will ensure there is enough of a slope for the pumpkins to more easily pick up speed as they roll.

"The first pumpkin to get down the finish line makes it to the next heat, and then depending on how many participants we have, there will be so many heats, and then everybody competes until there's a winner," he noted.

To register, find the Weyburn Kinsmen & Kinettes group on Facebook, or email weyburnkinclub@gmail.com. All proceeds go back to the community.
