Over the recent Labour Day weekend, the U17 Team Sask Lacrosse boys competed in the national championship held in Prince Edward Island. Weyburn proudly contributed three exceptional athletes to the roster: Sawyer Leko, Ryder Hignett, and Blake Becker.

Charles Hignett, a dedicated coach overseeing both the boys U15 and U17 lacrosse teams in the local area, attended the event as a spectator and provided insights on the team's performance.

Within the U17 age category, a total of 10 teams participated in the championship. Team Sask found themselves securing the third position in their pool, leading to a matchup against the third-placed team from the other pool, ultimately securing a commendable 5th place overall. Hignett elaborated on their journey, stating, "During our round-robin play, we had two wins and two losses. Our playoff game we won 13 to 4 against Quebec."

Hignett expressed his gratitude to all the local sponsors and those who supported the club's fundraising efforts which helped allow them to compete at nationals.

Hignett also disclosed that although the lacrosse season has concluded, there are intentions to organize clinics during the upcoming fall season. Specific dates and times for these clinics are yet to be finalized.
