This past weekend around 120 of this year's 170 graduates from the Weyburn Comprehensive School came out to Saskatchewan Drive in Weyburn for their first ever Reverse Parade!

And despite the intense heat of somewhere near 34 degrees Celsius during the day there were still around 1,000 cars full of people that showed up to support our local grads.

"From 1:05 in the afternoon when we started, up until about 3:20 when we stopped, we had bumper-to-bumper cars," told Jamie Blunden, Chief of Police at the Weyburn Police Service. "Everybody that showed up had a good time."

With the scorching sun beating down all day long the students did what they could to stay cool and hydrated. Luckily some local individuals brought the grads frozen treats to help cool them down near the hottest part of the day.

"Some kind-hearted citizens came out, and ultimately there were some popsicles given, one of the grads went around and passed those out," added Chief Blunden. "Of course, everybody being spaced far apart, we were trying to comply with the standards for COVID and I think we did a pretty good job on it."

The day went overwhelmingly well thanks to all of the help from the volunteers and emergency crew members that were on hand throughout the day.

"The amount of support was truly overwhelming. This may not have been the grad we expected, and despite the heat, all the grads had a ton of fun and it is something that we will definitely remember in years to come," exclaimed Megan Ebel, Graduate and co-organizer of the parade.

"We'd like to thank all of the officials that made the Reverse Parade possible," Ebel noted. "A special shout out to Police Chief Jamie Blunden, Fire Chief Simon Almond, and the other firemen for sticking it out in the heat and ensuring everyone's safety."

Throughout the day the grads were visited by many friends, family members, and various other members of the community. Even some cute and furry friends showed up to wish them well.

We want to wish all of our local graduates a bright and positive future! Thank you to everyone who showed up to support them this past weekend.
