The Weyburn Iron Pigs picked up a big win over the Regina Ghosts Sunday night to start off their 2023 QVBL campaign. The Pigs would build up an early lead, and hold off the Ghosts for an 11-6 victory.
On the mound, JJ Fisher, Ben McFarlane and James Giroux would have some solid performances. The win would be credited to Fosher, who went three innings, allowing four runs on five hits. McFarlane pitched 2 innings, allowing one run while striking out one. Giroux finished off the game, tossing two innings, striking out three while allowing one run.
At the plate, Mike Onstad and Brad Weisgerber would drive in three runs each. Onstad finished the high with two hits in two at-bats, including a double. Weisgerber had one hit in four plate appearances, with that hit being a base-clearing triple. Garrett Walbaum would have two RBIs in the win, with Troy Miller also bringing a run home.
Miller, Walbaum and Walker Happ had multi-hit games as well.
The Iron Pigs are back in action Thursday night when they host the Regina Rockies at Tom Laing Park. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Weyburn Sun Devils played their first-ever Saskota League game Friday night, and they made a statement. They would pick up a 23-2 road win over the Arcola Threshers.
The Sun Devils are back in action Tuesday night. They travel to Oxbow to take on the Chiefs.
