Ryan Janke announced that he would be running for Weyburn City Council in the upcoming election. With this, Janke promises to continue supporting the community and local businesses as well should he be elected.

To help support local businesses, Janke says that he will push for the establishment of a site where local businesses can sell their goods online in order to compete with larger online retailers.

"First and foremost we need to do everything we can to make sure what we already have is thriving," Janke explained. "Other communities have started a sort of collective website where local businesses can market their goods compete with Amazon. I think that's a fantastic way to make sure everyone is aware that there are plenty of local options that are just as good and will give you far better service than you will ever get by going to Regina or going online."

In addition to his push for local business support, Janke wants to help those living in the city to adapt to the current norm of working from home. He explained that with the pandemic, many people are working from home, which means those who have jobs in larger cities and centres don't need to live there, and instead can live in a smaller city such as Weyburn.

"I feel that with the work from home revolution going on there is a tremendous opportunity for cities the size of Weyburn to be the beneficiaries of huge grants of economic wealth and population that's going to be happening," Janke added. "If you're working in a big city but working from home and raising a family, there's really no reason why people need to be working in cities anymore. They could easily be doing that in places like Weyburn."

He says Weyburn is very appealing for those working from home due to the new schools, rec centre, and its constant rating of the top 10 places to live in Canada.
