“We, as a city, the city workers, and our council, and all the citizens are working hard, all working as one group to make Weyburn just this wonderful place to live on the prairies.”

Weyburn Mayor Marcel Roy was excited to learn yesterday for the second year in a row, Weyburn had been named the Best Place To Live on the Prairies by MoneySense Magazine. As well, Weyburn was the only city on the prairies named to be in the top 100 of best places to raise a family.

“We’re getting a brand new school that will be ready in a couple of years, and we’re going to also have a community centre, and that’s our whole goal and vision that our council has to make it even more attractive to people to live in our community,” Roy added.

Weyburn was ranked 33rd overall in the country, out of 415 cities. The Opportunity City was the only city from Saskatchewan in the top 50, ahead of Saskatoon (60), Estevan (93) and Regina (97). When asked if he would use the rankings as a way to stoke the rivalry with Estevan, Roy was non-committal.

“I won’t point that out to them, but I’m sure they know that it is, and most people, there are a lot of people, that realize that too, but I’ll let that sleeping dog lie.”

After the joking around, Roy re-iterated a sentiment he shared last year when Weyburn first received the honour of being the best place to live on the prairies.

“It is a most wonderful city, and I’m most honoured to be mayor, to be able to be leading the city out to this, and to know we are one of the best cities on the prairies.”
