Some sad news coming from the family of Chris Cornell this morning. He passed "suddenly and unexpectedly" last night at the age of 52.

The Soundgarden frontman, who also went on to create Audioslave, Temple of the Dog and have a successful solo career, was found in a hotel bathroom in Detroit after playing a show in the city last night.

The family is obviously devastated and no cause of death has been found yet, although his death is being investigated by the Detroit Police as a possible suicide, with the Medical Examiner yet to determine the cause.

Cornell and Soundgarden became a trademark in the Grunge era of rock, being one of four bands credited with the success of Grunge. Cornell himself wrote songs for many bands and won a number of awards along the way.

Here at K106, we are very sad about the passing and pass on our thoughts to Cornell's friends and family.
