The Red Cross Day of Pink was an absolute blast and a huge success but now Red Cross is switching gears and looking for volunteers.

"We definitely are always looking for volunteers but at the moment we're a little short handed in the Weyburn area," said Community Outreach Co-ordinator Stewart Kerr. "It would be great if we could up our numbers by five or six more people."

Since the floods of 2011, the Red Cross has always been concerned about the possibility of more floods in the Southeast region. Kerr says that volunteers help with things, such as major evacuations and displacements.

"We train our volunteers to deal with those types of situations," Kerr said. "You're trained to deal with people who are psychologically and emotionally distressed, we have training for first aid and just making sure that you're able to fully handle the type of environment."

Volunteers generally become part of the emergency response team, responsible for setting up reception centers to process those coming through and hand out vouchers for food, clothing and shelter.

"You never know what's going to happen in the future with disasters," said Kerr. "But we're usually always wanting to help and this is a great way to recieve the training and to prepare yourself to be able to put yourself in that position to help someone."
