While there have yet to be any cases of covid-19 in Saskatchewan, it is still an issue the province is keeping a close eye on, especially for those who have travelled recently.

Dr. Saqib Shahab is Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer. During the most recent update about covid-19, he explained it all comes down to monitoring symptoms.

If you have recently returned from a trip, and you find yourself showing symptoms of respiratory illness, Dr. Shahab said you need to self-isolate and monitor the symptoms. If the symptoms include a cough and a fever, then call the Healthline 811, and they will provide further information.

“There is going to be more testing now, just to make sure that we don’t miss an importation, even if it’s not from one of the highlighted countries,” Dr. Shahab said. “Then, if the test is negative, once you are symptom-free, you can go about school and work, but you shouldn’t go to school or work if you have any respiratory symptoms.”

When returning from a trip, if you have any symptoms show up over the course of 14 days, you should get in touch with the Healthline. From there, they can make a determination on the next course of action.

The province will be providing a further update on covid-19 in the coming days.
