The upcoming professional mixed martial arts event in Weyburn will benefit local fighters and sporting groups. "Atonement" is being put on by Saskatchewan's Prestige Fight Club at Crescent Point Place on Saturday.

"We work with Weyburn MMA, we work with the Red Wings, we work with as many groups as we can to help raise a little bit of money to help their kids get uniforms, travel costs, new equipment. So, right now with Weyburn MMA, they've been selling tickets and VIP tables for us and we're well over $2,500 with them right now which makes us feel really great about the whole situation," said Cord Crowthers of Prestige FC.

Friday is the official launch of the fights, with weigh-ins from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Weyburn Travelodge.

Crowthers said people are welcome to come down and get photos and autographs with all the fighters. The fight card includes Charmaine Tweet of Regina, plus three UFC fighters, local fighter Sheldon LeBlanc, and Weyburn's own Clayton Shira will make his professional debut on Saturday.

Tickets for the event Saturday are expected to be sold out. Advance tickets are $45 and $55 at the door. They are available at Travelodge, Pump Jacks, York Jewellers, and KG Hotel.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with the fights starting at 6:30 p.m.
