The Weyburn Police Service advising residents of Weyburn to be on the watch for a potential scam, after receiving a complaint last week.

The WPS was contacted by a potential victim of the scam. The complaint indicated the victim received a text message which said they were due a refund thanks to an overpayment, and a link was attached to the text.

The victim clicked the link but didn't go through with all of the steps once they realized it could be a scam. They quickly contact their financial institution to make sure no transactions went through or would go through, and they contact the police.

The Weyburn Police Service is reminding residents to be vigilant, and not share information, over the phone or online, with someone they don’t personally know.
