The Weyburn Police Service is investigating after a report of theft and vandalism at a local cemetery. The report came in this past Saturday.

“There was a family member that contacted the police indicating that they were out there recently, and they noticed, from a relative’s gravesite, that there was a copper vase missing, and some vandalism that they believe occurred sometime in the past week,” explained Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype about the situation.

The deputy chief added they will be keeping an eye out on the situation. Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service.

The following day, police received a call about a stolen vehicle in the city.

“Some residents had woken up and realized that their van was missing sometime overnight,” VanDeSype said.

The owners were able to provide some information to the officers who responded to the call, and later that day, while on patrol, members of the WPS located the vehicle not too far away in a back alley. The vehicle was towed to the offices of the WPS for the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service at (306) 848-3250, or they can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477 (TIPS).
