A variety of cases in the weekly report from the Weyburn Police Service shows officers dealt with everything from accidents to assaults this past week.

One case involved a pedestrian-vehicle accident on January 23 at Government Road and Coteau Avenue. The victim was working at the side of the road when a vehicle went by striking the man and knocking him down. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was issued a ticket for driving without due care and consideration upon police arrival. The man that was struck did not suffer any injuries.

"Definitely give our workers and pedestrians sufficient room when you are driving by them and drive nice and slow," said Police Chief Marlo Pritchard.

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for January 20 to 26:

January 21st – The Weyburn Police responded to a local business after receiving a report of an assault. Police located the victim, a 31-year-old male, who was suffering from minor injuries. The subsequent investigation identified the accused, a 28-year-old male, who was arrested and charged with assault. He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

January 21st – The Weyburn Police Service were called to a local residence concerning an unwanted guest. Upon arrival, police found an individual who had been earlier released on conditions and who was now breaching those conditions. Police arrested a 31-year-old male and charged him with breach of an undertaking. He was in custody overnight and then released for court at a future date.

January 21st – The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a theft of an ATV. The complainant advised that sometime during the Christmas Break their 2004 Blue Yamaha 400 was stolen. No suspects at this time and the matter remains under investigation.

January 22nd – The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a hit and run accident. The complainant advised police that another vehicle had struck their parked vehicle, in the 400 Blk 1st Ave NW. No suspect vehicle has been identified and the incident remains under investigation.

January 23rd – The Weyburn Police Service responded to a call of an individual who was threatening self-harm. Police attended and were able to convince the individual to accompany the officers to the hospital.

January 24th – The Weyburn Police Service attended to a local medical facility after receiving a call that an individual was causing damage. Police charged a 35-year-old male with Mischief under $5000, and who was released from custody and will appear in court in March. The Weyburn Police Service continue to receive reports of attempted frauds, this week attempts were made using the CRA Scam, the Stars Lottery Scam as well as a call from an Eye Doctor requesting clarification on their identification. All the complainants became suspicious during the conversations and did not lose any money or share their personal information.
