Weyburn was well represented at the Canadian National Pickleball Championships held in Regina last week.  

Marcie Benson came back from Regina with some hardware. She took the silver medal in the Women’s 3.0 Doubles, age 60-64 category with her partner Brenda Aspen-Nilsson from Saskatoon. Benson also competed in the Women’s doubles 3.5 60-65 group with Brenda Lye from Newfoundland and in the Mixed Doubles with her son Brent Benson. 

Deana Mainil was also representing Weyburn at the event and came home with four medals.  

Mainil captured the bronze in the mixed doubles 4.0 and above, age 40-49 group with Regina Beach’s Dave Clarke. The pair also brought back the silver medal in the mixed doubles 4.5, ages 35+. Mainil won silver in the women’s singles 4.0 ages 16 and above, and captured a gold medal in the women’s doubles 4.0 ages 50 and over with Saskatoon’s Zsuzs Papp. 

The national championships were played at the Queen City Pickleball Hub and the Viterra International Trade Center in Regina. There were more than 650 athletes from across the country taking part in the event that ran from this past Wednesday to Sunday.
